Idealism – Characteristic / Virtue of the Week

Idealism – Characteristic / Virtue of the Week

14-20 May 2018

Idealism is a friend of hope – hope for the future, hope for what is possible, hope that things can change and become the vision in your mind.

You may be the only person who sees the possibility of what can happen and what will make a positive difference in our world. It is said that the ones who think they can change the world, the crazy ones, are the ones that often do.

There have been people in the past who have dreamed of their idea becoming a reality and persevered with their idealistic view of how things could be – others may have considered them a bit odd, crazy or even mentally insane when they shared their thoughts however without someone having an idea and being purposeful in striving to make their idea become a reality we wouldn’t have electricity, television, phones, ships or planes.

Sooner or later others start to see that your idea is a reality and hop on board with your idea and some may even join you in making your idea become a reality. There will also be others that won’t believe something can be achieved until they see it with their own eyes and they may still not believe it – can you imagine a skeptical person who didn’t believe that a ship wouldn’t sink or a plane would not fly and then watch it happen?

Everyone can make a positive difference in this world, whether it be smiling at a stranger or doing something kind for a friend, colleague or neighbour – you never know the impact that you have when you strive to be the best version of yourself you can be. You make a difference in this world and don’t undermine the small impacts you have – things may be small to you but may mean the world to someone else. You never know. Whatever impact you have let it be a positive one.

Want to be a better person? Personal growth is a constant transformation – allow the Virtue of the Week to serve as a gentle reminder of who you are and who you want to be. Help create the world you want to live in – as you practice a virtue each week you also serve as a positive example to others and inspire others to do the same. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Actions to take to practice Idealism:

● Every morning:

1. Read the card

2. If you feel the need take a few minutes to reflect on what it means to you right now

3. Trust that at the right time during the day this virtue will come to mind and you will know when to act on it

● Every evening:

1. Take a few minutes to reflect on how you applied this virtue in your life today

2. If you didn’t practice it, learn from your experiences by considering what you would do differently next time. If you did practice it then acknowledge yourself for doing so as it increases your self awareness and self confidence.

3. Acknowledge yourself when you do apply this virtue in your life. You will become more self aware and more confident within yourself.
