Global Characteristic of the Week : Love
Global Characteristic of the Week : Love
Love is so powerful – it is said love conquers all – but does it?
Love means accepting and respecting each others differences, coming to a common understanding of what’s important rather than one person believing their way, opinion or belief is what is also right for the other person – without allowing that person to make up their own mind. Businesses sometimes operate like this also.
It is also said that love is unconditional – but is it? The relationships that fail, or aren’t worth having, are the ones where one person dominates the other, degrades them, humiliates them, criticises them. I can think of personal & professional relationships that fit this category. Bullying is dominate everywhere – our preschools, schools, homes, business, organisations & relationships.
Love isn’t unconditional. Love is conditional. Treat people how you believe they want to be treated, not how you think they want to be treated. People like to be treated with kindness, acceptance and respect, then they are likely to feel loved.
There is so much violence in our society. It’s not acceptable. If you love yourself you will not allow others to treat you badly. Having clear boundaries provide security, stability and these are the relationships that succeed in the long term.
Love does make the world go round – when it’s a two way process.
