Endurance – Characteristic / Virtue of the Week
Australian farmers come to mind when I think of endurance. Who or what comes to your mind? When we name a situation or person who we see practice endurance we let them know we are not blind to their hardship they are currently facing and that we see the qualities of their character. This is important because during those challenging times they may not see their own gifts of character.
Letting them know you see what they are going through also allows them to know they can talk to you about their situation because it is jointly recognised and they have the support that they might not have known was there for them.
It also opens up opportunities for new ideas on how to overcome the difficulties that are being faced. For example, there are many ‘art trails’ which support artists where the general public has an interest in, what about a ‘farm trail’ which benefits farmers?
Ideas that put money into the pockets of the farmers, where children, youth & adults are educated benefit everyone. Great ideas such as R U OK? grow from adversities. What ideas do you have and how can we further assist and support our farmers, not just in Australia but globally.
We all practice endurance at some point in our life, life’s lessons come in all shapes and sizes. Practising endurance does not mean not asking for, or accepting, support. It’s easier to practice endurance when you allow others to support you because everything passes in time and one day you’ll be there for them – or others who will need you.
Self-development means constant transformation throughout your life – allow the ‘Virtue of the Week’ to serve as a gentle reminder of who you are and who you want to be. Help create the world you want to live in as you practice a virtue each week you also serve as a positive example to others and inspire others to do the same. Be the change you want to see in the world.
Actions to take to practice Discernment:
● Every morning:
1. Read the card
2. If you feel the need take a few minutes to reflect on what it means to you right now
3. Trust that at the right time during the day this virtue will come to mind and you will know when to act on it
● Every evening:
1. Take a few minutes to reflect on how you applied this virtue in your life today
2. If you didn’t practice it, learn from your experiences by considering what you would do differently next time. If you did practice it then acknowledge yourself for doing so as it increases your self-awareness and self-confidence.
3. Acknowledge yourself when you do apply this virtue in your life. You will become more self-aware and more confident within yourself.
